Passport is a very essential document in our day to day life. Besides Travelling purpose it is a strong sign of citizenship for a citizen. The necessity of having a passport is increasing rapidly. For this reason everyone likes to have his/her own passport.
Everyone thinks that getting a passport from any passport office of Bangladesh is very hard process. A lot of brokers and cheats are always chasing to make extra benefit from a new applicant. This is partly true for those who have no academic knowledge. But no one can make money by cheating you if you aware of those frauds in passport office.
Once I also thought that making a passport is a tough work. You need to have patience and will to get your passport by following some simple steps. In this post I am going to instruct you about the easiest way of getting an Machine Readable Passport (MRP) from my own experience.
To apply for a new passport there are two ways, Online and Offline.
Before apply for a new passport, read this instruction carefully and make sure that you have all necessary documents and photos according to instructions.
Getting Your New Passport (Step by Step Guide)
If you want to apply for a new passport (May be Online or Offline) the first step is to deposit MRP passport application fees in Selected Branches of Sonali Bank or you have to have a Credit card from One Bank/Premier Bank/Trust Bank.
Step 1. Deposit Passport Application Fees:
Firstly, You need to deposit the requisite amount of money in any of the selected branches of Bank for your new passport. The amount of fees will vary according to the passport type. Normally there are three types of passport.
a) Ordinary
b) Official
c) Diplomatic
You need to deposit the money and collect money receipt from the Bank first.
An important tips : Must write your full name according to your National ID or Birth Certificate or Academic Certificate in deposit slip of the Bank to avoid future hassles. There is a wrong instruction even in the instruction paper of Passport Office which is writing Mohammad (মোহাম্মদ ) instead of MD (মো:) . But I am telling you again just ignore this tip and write your name according your main documents.

This money receipt will be needed for Online Application and until final submission of your application form to the passport office. If you an applicant from Dhaka city and didn’t have a credit card you can try Sonali Bank College Gate Branch to avoid the rush of people to deposit the fees. But keep in mind to go to the Bank before 15 minutes of its opening time to avoid the possible crowd.
Fill the MRP Application form:
After depositing fees you are ready to fill the passport application form. You can apply through both Offline or Online . But I strongly recommend you to apply through Online. Because in that case there is no chance of spelling error in your information. You will get extra benefit of Online application in the every phase of next application process.
After filling the form with necessary information check it repeatedly. When you will sure that there is no mistakes in your information submit the online form finally. You will get a pdf copy of your submitted application form by a regular email in your mail inbox instantly. Then print 2 set of the pdf form and fill some of the blank field and sign it with a black boll point pen. With the printed pdf form, attach below items.
- Recently taken Two copies of passport size photograph with each form.
- Attach 2 set photocopy of your National ID or Birth Certificate.
Now it is time to make attested your photos and documents from a 1st class Gazetted officer. After that your MRP application form is finally ready to submit at the Passport office.
Final Submission and Photo Taking:
At the day of submitting this document I recommend you to go to passport office early because this is the day of taking your photograph and biometric sign with finger print of your both hand. Don’t wear white shirt or Sharee this day. May be it will need to spend full day for all these process. So it is better to keep some snacks with you (if needed) because you have to stand a long queue for about two or three hours in the office premise without any sitting facilities. Here I had to wait a tiresome 2 hours for getting my call from the on duty military person for photo taking and other process.
After taking your photos and biometric sign with finger print the office will give you a Passport delivery slip where you will get the tentative passport collection date.
Police Verification:

Every new applicant think this step is very hard and some confusion creates in their mind. For them who are thoughtful about this step I assure them it is not so hard but very easy process ever. Normally an officer from SB office call your mobile number and meet you for verification process. If you provide separate address in Temporary and Permanent address field in your MRP form the verification process will be taken from both address.
Collecting Passport :
After successful completion of all these steps you will get a text message notification from the system where you will be informed about the date of collecting your passport from the passport office. After collecting your passport from the office don’t forget to check every information in the passport.
